MORTGAGE BANKING CAREER

I began my 13 year mortgage banking career in 1986, after a year as an analyst with Old Kent Bank and Trust, and a formative year in leasing with Trammel Crow Company in Irvine, CA. The Martin Rom Company was a six person deal making machine.  Marty was friends with the likes of Craig Hall and Mickey Shapiro of Lautrec Ltd, one of the largest private owners of manufactured housing communities (MHCs) in the United States.  At that time, the MHC financing market was dominated mostly by local banks and few national lenders.  We published a white paper on the risks and underwriting of MHC loans, and began to market the concept to lenders throughout the country.  Because of our efforts, new lenders entered this market and we soon were doing hundreds of millions of dollars in annual production.  Our success in MHC lending allowed us to branch out to all property types.  Our group went through various iterations and ownerships.  We began a joint venture with Nomura Asset Capital and became a direct lender in the CMBS market, creating a national lending platform.  When the 1998 CMBS market imploded, we were purchased by a publicly held company (Bingham Financial Services).  I resigned in 1999 to pursue a development career with a client (NEG).  The mortgage banking group was ultimately sold to Wells Fargo Bank. DEVELOPER FINANCING

I am the point person for all of Northern Equities Group's financing needs. Specifically, my responsibilities include:

  • Designed Investment feasibility model (“Caplook”) and perform due diligence for all projects.

  • Perform on-going analysis for all major financial decisions including new development, purchases, deal structures and leasing.

  • Source all debt financing including construction loans and permanent loans using national and regional banks, mortgage brokers, life insurance companies, CMBS lenders and REITS.

  • Negotiate (with attorneys) loan documents.

  • Prepare Equity packages.

  • Perform buy/hold modeling and analysis.

  • Main contact for all lending relationships and servicing.

  • Manage all construction draws.

  • I successfully navigated NEG through the worst financial crisis in its history in 2008-2011.
